Letter, 1865 February 25.

The collection contains one letter to "Cousin Ann" from John Buckley. Buckley wrote the letter from Indianapolis after he had been mustered out of the army. He indicates that he is doing reasonably well in school and also mentions the draft, stating that some prominent businessmen of Indianapolis were among those drafted. One man offered Buckley a house and lot if he would substitute for his service. Buckley turned the offer down.

John M. Buckley of Carroll County, Indiana, enlisted in Company A of the Indiana 2nd Cavalry on 18 September 1861. Buckley was promoted from private to full corporal before he was mustered out on 4 October 1864. He went on to attend business college and later directed schools in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Rockford, Illinois. From the description of Letter, 1865 February 25.
